Tierra Mariposa was founded in 2022 in Santa Cruz Papalutla, Tlacolula, oaxaca by the ceramic master Martha Alicia Jiménez Sánchez.
In her craft with local clay (barro), she builds safe spaces for herself and her community. In her intimate connection in ancestral lands, rooted in her sensibilities, pieces and works, she comes to life as Mujer Barro.

Four elements
We work with the four elements that give us life.
CLAY - EARTH
"Thank you, Barro, for making our hearts happy. Thank you, Barro, for telling us the history and life of our ancestors, the wisdom of clay that stops time and preserves the warmth of our gastronomy and great legacy."
-mujer barro
FIRE
"Flame at the center of this land, that revives our memory, this spark that is now a stove to hug us on cold nights, warms up our meals and our hearts."
-mujer barro
WATER
"My own hands sprout from fresh water, it is just an extension of my life and of my family."
-mujer barro
WIND
"At noon the reckless air that puts out the tortilla stove is released and from there it sends us its messages, a wind that reaches the north, a wind that reminds us of the promises to meet again. It also reminds us that the grandmothers want to see their grandchildren play."
